Nasarawa Amazons delivered a dramatic late performance to secure a narrow but significant 1-0 win over Dannaz Ladies FC on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium, with super substitute Onyekachi Deborah emerging as the match-winner.
From kickoff, the Lafia Landladies asserted their dominance, dictating the tempo and enjoying the lion’s share of possession. Their attacking intent was evident as they pushed forward relentlessly, winning several set pieces and probing for openings. However, a disciplined Dannaz Ladies backline, coupled with a vigilant goalkeeper, ensured the deadlock remained intact.
Despite their control and creativity, Nasarawa Amazons were unable to convert their chances in the first half, which ended goalless but firmly tilted in their favor.
Determined to unlock the stubborn defense, Head Coach Christopher Danjuma reshaped his attack in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Lot Daniella came on for Ikpa Janet, while Shobowale Olushola replaced Omosuyi Ayowunmi, injecting renewed urgency into the frontline.
As the tension grew and time ticked away, further substitutions followed in the 78th minute. Onyekachi Deborah was introduced for Okah Adaobi, alongside Ojunfunwah, who replaced Pace Ayatsea, signaling an all-out push for victory.
Just when the contest appeared destined for a stalemate, the breakthrough finally arrived in dramatic fashion. Deep into stoppage time, in the 95th minute, Onyekachi Deborah seized on a loose ball after the opposition goalkeeper was caught out of position, calmly slotting into an empty net to spark wild celebrations among the home supporters.
Her late strike proved decisive, sealing a hard-earned victory for Nasarawa Amazons, who displayed composure, tactical discipline, and relentless attacking pressure throughout the encounter.
The result strengthens their position in second place in the NWFL Premiership 2026 Group B standings, as they move to 22 points after 11 matches.
Technical Adviser Christopher Danjuma Musa applauded his team’s resilience and ability to adapt under pressure:
“A team that can win away after a home loss should never be underestimated. Missed chances can create anxiety, but the players remained composed. Despite losing eight key players, we continue to grow stronger. Performances like this highlight our progress in the league.”
Nasarawa Amazons will now shift focus to their next fixture, where they host Ahudianynem Queens on Matchday 12 as they intensify their push for a coveted Super Six spot.
