Heartland FC secured a dramatic 1–0 victory over Sunshine Stars FC in their Matchday 12 encounter of the 2025/26 Nigeria National League season.

The highly anticipated fixture took place at the iconic Dan Anyiam Stadium, where a large turnout of supporters witnessed a tense and competitive battle between both sides.

From the opening whistle, the two teams showed great determination as they searched for the breakthrough. Sunshine Stars displayed resilience in defence while also creating several attacking opportunities, but they were unable to convert their chances. Heartland also pressed forward on multiple occasions, yet both teams remained locked in a stalemate for most of the contest.

As the match appeared destined to end in a goalless draw, the hosts delivered a late moment of brilliance. In the final minute of regulation time, Abdulateef Ibrahim capitalised on an opportunity to score the decisive goal, sending the home fans into wild celebrations and handing Heartland all three points.

The narrow victory boosts Heartland’s campaign in the league, while Sunshine Stars will look to quickly put the defeat behind them.

The Akure-based side will now shift focus to their next fixture where they are scheduled to host Smart City FC at the Akure Sports Complex in their upcoming Matchday 15 clash of the Nigeria National League season.

Sunshine Stars will be hoping to bounce back strongly in front of their home supporters as the competition continues to intensify.
