Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, delivered a determined performance to defeat Senegal 2-1 in the second leg of their third qualifying round tie for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Saturday night.
Coached by Moses Aduku, the Falconets secured a 3-1 aggregate victory, having won the first leg 1-0 last weekend in Abeokuta.
The Nigerian side showed composure and tactical discipline to finish the job and keep their World Cup dreams alive.
Kindness Ifeanyi, who netted the decisive goal in the first leg, once again proved crucial for Nigeria.
The forward opened the scoring in the 18th minute, rising highest to head home from a well-delivered corner kick and give the Falconets an early advantage.
Nigeria continued to press for more goals and were rewarded in the 68th minute when Precious Oscar doubled the lead, converting from another corner situation to put the visitors firmly in control of the contest.
Senegal pulled one back late in the game to reduce the deficit, but it was not enough to overturn Nigeria’s aggregate lead as the Falconets held on to secure passage to the next stage.
With the victory, Nigeria advances to the final qualifying round, where they will face Malawi. The winner over two legs will earn a coveted ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, scheduled to take place in September 2026.
The Falconets are now just one step away from returning to the global stage as they prepare for a decisive clash against Malawi.
