The management of Osun Babes Football Club wishes to categorically address and clarify recent allegations circulating in the media regarding the welfare and remuneration of players of the club.
First, it is important to state clearly that the Osun State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, with the unwavering support of the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, has never abandoned Osun Babes Football Club nor its players. The administration has consistently demonstrated commitment to sports development and athletes’ welfare across the state.
Contrary to claims suggesting deliberate neglect, the issue of salary review must be placed in proper context. Yes, there were genuine discussions and promises to improve players’ salaries effective January, and this proposed increment has already been captured in the state’s budget framework. However, as with all public sector processes, budgetary provisions require formal approval and release before implementation. The delay being experienced is therefore administrative and procedural—not a refusal or abandonment of responsibility.
Regarding the payment of ₦60,000 received by some players in January 2026, it is misleading to portray this as the totality of what the players are entitled to or will receive for the season. That payment represents an interim disbursement, made in good faith while awaiting full budgetary approval. It was never intended to be final compensation nor a reflection of the government’s valuation of the players’ efforts.
Claims that players have been “reduced to beggars on the street” are grossly exaggerated and do not reflect the true position of the club or the government’s intentions. While the current economic climate is admittedly challenging nationwide, the Osun State Government has continued to engage relevant authorities to ensure that all outstanding welfare matters are addressed responsibly and sustainably.
It must also be emphasized that this administration has built a reputation for keeping its word. Across multiple sectors—sports inclusive—commitments made by the Adeleke-led government have consistently been fulfilled once due process is completed. Osun Babes FC remains a priority, and discussions are ongoing to ensure that players’ welfare aligns with available resources and approved structures.
The management of Osun Babes FC therefore urges players, supporters, and the general public to exercise patience and avoid misinformation that could undermine team morale and public confidence. Constructive dialogue remains open, and all legitimate concerns are being handled through appropriate channels.
Osun Babes FC, with the backing of the Osun State Government, remains committed to the dignity, welfare, and professional growth of its players—both now and in the long term.
