The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has instructed Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to relocate their home matches to an alternative stadium due to concerns over the condition of their current playing surface.

In the directive, the league body offered the Ibadan-based club two options for their home fixtures: the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, or the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.

The decision comes after an assessment of the pitch at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, which the NPFL described as being in a deteriorated state and unsuitable for live television broadcast.

The league noted that the poor condition of the playing surface falls below the standards required for top-flight football.

The directive was officially communicated to Shooting Stars in a letter signed by the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, on Friday.

According to the NPFL, the move is aimed at preserving the integrity of the league, ensuring high-quality match presentation, and safeguarding the welfare of players, match officials, and broadcast partners.

The league further stated that Shooting Stars will continue to use one of the approved alternative venues for their remaining home fixtures until significant improvements are made to the Lekan Salami Stadium pitch and it is duly inspected and certified fit for use.

Shooting Stars are scheduled to host Rivers United in their next home fixture, which will now be played at one of the NPFL-approved stadiums unless otherwise communicated.
