Italian Serie A side Atalanta have reached an agreement with Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce for the permanent transfer of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in a deal valued at up to €40 million.
Reports indicate that both clubs finalised negotiations on Friday, settling on a €35 million base fee with an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons.
The proposed agreement will see Lookman sign a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Istanbul-based club.
Although the deal has been agreed at club level, the transfer has not yet been fully concluded, as discussions are still ongoing regarding the structure and timing of payments.
On personal terms, Lookman is set for a massive financial upgrade in Turkey. Sources in Turkey claim the Nigerian international will earn an annual salary of €9 million at Fenerbahce—almost four times the €2.3 million per year he currently earns at Atalanta.
Fenerbahce appear to have won the race for Lookman’s signature ahead of fierce domestic rivals Galatasaray, who had also shown strong interest in the winger. It was further reported that Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen attempted to convince Lookman to join Galatasaray.
Spanish side Atletico Madrid were also monitoring the situation, but Fenerbahce have now emerged as clear favourites and are on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers in their recent history.
If finalised, the move would mark a significant step in Lookman’s career and further underline the growing financial and sporting ambition of the Turkish club.
