‎Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who passed away after a road accident.

‎The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday in Umunede, Delta State, where the late Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was involved in a fatal crash.

‎ He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Agbor, also in Delta State, but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

‎The sad development was made public by Turkish giants Beşiktaş, the club Ndidi currently represents, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss suffered by their midfielder.

‎In a condolence message shared on social media platform X, the club wrote:

‎“May Allah have mercy on the deceased. We offer our heartfelt condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and all his loved ones.”

‎Ndidi recently assumed the role of Super Eagles captain, taking over from William Troost-Ekong, and led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. During the tournament, the midfielder also scored his first-ever goal for the national team, marking a memorable personal milestone.

‎Earlier in the competition, Ndidi had spoken emotionally about his father while explaining his goal celebration against Tunisia, also paying tribute to former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu, whom he described as a major source of inspiration.

‎Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, teammates, and members of the football community, as the Super Eagles skipper navigates this difficult moment in his life.
