AFCON 2025: Lookman Clinches MOTM As Super Eagles Cruise Past Mozambique

Ademola Lookman delivered a masterclass performance to earn the Man of the Match award as the Super Eagles of Nigeria dismantled Mozambique 4-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The emphatic Round of 16 victory was recorded on Monday night in Fès, Morocco, with Lookman at the heart of Nigeria’s attacking brilliance. The Atalanta winger produced a sensational display, scoring once and providing three assists to inspire the three-time African champions.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute, calmly finishing after a clever assist from Akor Adams to give Nigeria an early advantage. Just five minutes later, the 28-year-old turned provider, setting up Victor Osimhen for the Super Eagles’ second goal.

Moments after the restart, Lookman again showcased his vision and creativity, supplying the assist for Osimhen’s second goal of the night, extending Nigeria’s dominance. He then completed his remarkable outing by teeing up Akor Adams for the fourth goal later in the second half.

The winger’s performance underlined his outstanding form at the tournament, taking his tally to three goals and five assists in just three appearances for the Super Eagles at AFCON 2025.

Lookman’s Man of the Match award against Mozambique adds to his growing collection, having previously claimed the honour in Nigeria’s second group-stage encounter against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.

With performances of this calibre, Lookman continues to establish himself as one of the standout players of the tournament as Nigeria march confidently into the quarter-finals.
