Nigeria produced one of their most commanding performances of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday evening, dismantling Mozambique 4–0 in Fès, Morocco, to book a place in the quarterfinals.

Once again, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were at the heart of the Super Eagles’ attacking brilliance, combining seamlessly as Nigeria overwhelmed the Mambas with pace, precision and ruthless finishing. Osimhen netted a brace, Lookman scored once and provided two assists, while Akor Adams capped an outstanding display with a goal and two assists.

Nigeria signalled their intent early, with Osimhen finding the net inside two minutes, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside. Mozambique survived that early scare but could not hold out for long. In the 20th minute, Lookman broke the deadlock, racing onto Adams’ cross and curling a superb finish into the top corner.

The pressure intensified, and less than five minutes later the Super Eagles struck again. A perfectly weighted pass from Alex Iwobi split the Mozambican defence, allowing Lookman to deliver a teasing cross that deflected kindly off Adams and fell to Osimhen at the far post for a simple tap-in.

Mozambique struggled to cope with Nigeria’s tempo and movement, and despite a double substitution by coach Chiquinho Conde at halftime, their situation worsened almost immediately after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Lookman recovered a blocked cross, danced past two defenders and fired a low delivery across goal, where Osimhen bundled home his second of the night.

With a comfortable lead secured, Nigeria controlled proceedings, dictating the tempo and limiting Mozambique to few meaningful chances. The Super Eagles’ dominance was crowned late in the second half when Akor Adams grabbed his first goal of the tournament, finishing emphatically from Lookman’s second assist of the match.

The emphatic victory underlined Nigeria’s growing momentum in the competition and their attacking depth heading into the latter stages. The Super Eagles will now travel to Marrakech for the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of Tuesday’s clash between Algeria and DR Congo.
