The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Egypt a fine of $5,000 following their opening fixture against Zimbabwe at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to CAF, the sanction was imposed after members of the Egyptian squad and technical crew failed to fulfill mandatory media obligations after the match.
Players and officials reportedly walked through the mixed zone without responding to journalists’ post-match questions, a move deemed a direct violation of tournament media regulations.
CAF, in a statement, emphasized that interaction with accredited media forms a critical part of competition requirements and must be respected by all participating teams.
In addition to the fine, CAF has issued a stern warning to the Pharaohs, making it clear that harsher penalties could be enforced should the situation repeat itself.
The continental body specifically cautioned Egypt ahead of their highly anticipated clash against South Africa, insisting that media engagement must be observed after the encounter.
With scrutiny increasing as the tournament progresses, CAF reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, transparency, and respect for media duties throughout AFCON 2025.
