‎The Morocco versus Comoros encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was marred by a troubling incident, as laser pointers were repeatedly aimed at players and even the match referee, causing visible disruption and raising serious safety concerns.

‎This occurred in clear violation of Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations, which expressly prohibit the entry and use of laser devices inside stadiums.

‎ The presence of such dangerous items calls into question the effectiveness of security checks and crowd control measures at the venue.

‎Disturbingly, this is not an isolated occurrence.

‎Similar incidents involving laser distractions have previously been linked to supporters of North African teams, with Morocco frequently mentioned in past cases.

‎These actions are often used to unsettle or intimidate opposing players, particularly during crucial moments of matches.

‎Beyond the immediate safety risks, such behavior damages the image of African football at a time when the continent’s game is making significant strides in professionalism, organization, and global recognition.

‎CAF must respond firmly and without delay.

‎ The Moroccan Football Federation should face decisive sanctions, including substantial financial penalties, while stricter security protocols must be enforced to prevent a recurrence of these incidents.

‎Without clear accountability and enforcement, there is little hope of curbing these repeated disruptions. African football deserves an environment that is fair, secure, and respectful, and it is imperative that CAF upholds these standards with unwavering resolve.
