Chelsea booked their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a convincing 3-1 victory over Cardiff City in Tuesday night’s quarter-final clash.
After a cagey and goalless first half, the Blues came out with renewed purpose following the restart. Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, calmly finishing to put Chelsea ahead and ignite the contest.
Cardiff, however, refused to go down quietly and were rewarded for their persistence when David Turnbull struck in the 75th minute to restore parity and briefly threaten an upset.
Chelsea responded swiftly. With just eight minutes remaining, Pedro Neto fired home to regain the lead for the Premier League side, settling nerves inside the stadium. Garnacho then capped a standout performance by grabbing his second goal of the night late on, sealing a deserved 3-1 win and underlining Chelsea’s attacking quality.
The victory sends Chelsea into the last four of the competition as they continue their push for domestic silverware this season.
Attention now turns to the remaining quarter-final fixtures scheduled for Wednesday, with Manchester City set to host Brentford, while Newcastle United welcome Fulham to St James’ Park for the final semi-final places.
