‎Rivers United endured a disappointing start to their CAF Champions League campaign as they fell 3–0 to defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt in their matchday one fixture played on Saturday in Cairo.

‎The Nigerian side held their own for much of the first half, delivering a disciplined and compact performance that restricted the Egyptians to a handful of half-chances.

‎ Finidi George’s men looked organized defensively and showed promising signs going into the break.

‎However, the second half told a different story.

‎Pyramids FC came out sharper and more purposeful, and their pressure paid off when Ahmed Atef opened the scoring in the 52nd minute. Rivers United struggled to regain their focus, and Atef struck again just five minutes later to double the hosts’ lead.

‎The Egyptian forward completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, sealing a dominant win for Pyramids FC and leaving Rivers United with a mountain to climb in the group.

‎Despite the setback, Rivers United will now shift their attention to their matchday two clash, where they will host Moroccan giants RS Berkane in Uyo next Friday.

‎The Pride of Rivers will be eager to respond strongly and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
