Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have been crowned National Team of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards, further cementing their status as the most successful women’s national team on the continent.
The recognition comes on the back of a remarkable campaign under head coach Justine Madugu, who guided the Falcons to a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in August 2024.
The Nigerian side showcased resilience and determination throughout the tournament, culminating in a thrilling 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final played in Rabat.
The Super Falcons beat strong contenders including the Black Queens of Ghana and Atlas Lionesses of Moroccoto claim the prestigious award, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
The honour was received on behalf of the team by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, who praised the players and coaching staff for their commitment, discipline, and continued excellence.
In another category, Nigeria experienced a moment of disappointment as Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood narrowly missed out on the Young Women’s Player of the Year award, which went to Morocco’s Doha El Madani.
The night, however, firmly belonged to the Super Falcons, whose achievements in the past year further strengthen their legacy as Africa’s football powerhouse.
