Enyimba Football Club of Aba has firmly dismissed widespread reports claiming that the club slashed the salaries of its players by 50 percent following their 1–0 home defeat to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in Sunday’s NPFL fixture.
In a strongly worded statement issued on the club’s verified social media platforms, Enyimba management tagged the circulating reports as “misleading” and “a figment of the writer’s imagination,” stressing that no such punitive decision was ever taken.
According to the People’s Elephant, at no point did the management approve, initiate, or implement any form of salary reduction for its players or staff. The club emphasized its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and fair treatment of all personnel, adding that official decisions are communicated solely through accredited and verified club channels.
“Enyimba FC wishes to categorically state that at no time did the management approve, initiate, or implement any salary reduction. The club remains fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in its relationship with players and staff,” the statement read.
The former Nigerian and African champions also criticised the media outlet responsible for the initial report, noting that the platform neither reached out to the club nor verified the information before publication.
Enyimba urged fans, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the false report and continue to rely on the club’s official communication channels for accurate updates.
The Aba giants will now shift focus to their upcoming league engagements as they seek to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointing loss.
