The women’s football event at the ongoing Osun Military Paramilitary Games 2025 produced moments of sheer brilliance, heartbreak, and resilience on Wednesday, as the competition reached a fever pitch with two intense semi-final clashes at the Fountain University, Osogbo.
It was a day that showcased grit, passion, and tactical discipline, true reflections of the spirit that defines the uniformed services.
In the first semi-final of the day, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) battled the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to a pulsating 1-1 draw in regulation time, before triumphing 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout.
FRSC’s enterprising forward Tinuola Abeleje drew first blood in the 21st minute, after a swift counterattack that caught the Police defence flat-footed. But the Police responded almost immediately, as Temitayo Abolarin equalized two minutes later.
Both sides created chances in a fiercely contested encounter, with the Police dominating possession while FRSC relied on pace and precision in transition. However, the goalkeepers on both ends—particularly FRSC’s agile shot-stopper, were exceptional, forcing the game into penalties.
In the ensuing shootout, FRSC held their nerve to prevail 2-1, booking their place in Friday’s grand finale and sending their dugout into wild celebration.
The decisive moment came in the 31st minute when Kehinde Olukoya latched onto a loose ball inside the box and calmly slotted home to hand NSCDC the crucial lead.
Despite spirited attempts from the Immigration side to claw their way back, the Civil Defence women stood firm, organized in defence and clinical in counterplay.
With the win, NSCDC will now fancy their chances of winning Gold, when they face FRSC in what promises to be a fascinating final.
All roads now lead to the Fountain University on Friday, October 31st, with two mouth-watering fixtures.
The day begins with the Third-Place Playoff between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Police Force at 10:00 a.m., a chance for both sides to end their campaign on a high and claim the consolation bronze.
Then comes the much-anticipated women football final, between Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at 11:00 a.m.
It’s a matchup that pits defensive discipline against attacking flair, leadership against tenacity, a true battle of champions.
