CAF Awards: Ajibade, Okoronkwo Nominated for Women’s Player Of The Year ‎

‎Nigeria’s Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been nominated for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award, in recognition of their outstanding performances for both club and country over the past year.

‎The dynamic duo played instrumental roles in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where the Super Falcons captured a record-extending 10th continental title under coach Justine Madugu.

‎Forward Esther Okoronkwo enjoyed a brilliant tournament, contributing two goals and six assists, proving vital in Nigeria’s creative play and attacking success. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, known for her leadership and versatility, also impressed with one goal and two assists in the competition.

‎They are among ten players shortlisted for the continent’s most prestigious individual women’s football honour.

‎The reigning CAF Women’s Player of the Year, Barbara Banda of Zambia, will be aiming to defend her crown after claiming the award in 2024.

‎The nominations further highlight Nigeria’s enduring strength in women’s football and the impact of its top players on the African stage.
