The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that Morocco will host the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The mini-tournament will decide which African nation secures a spot in the intercontinental play-offs, where they will compete for one of the remaining places at the global showpiece.
According to CAF, the playoff semi-finals will take place on November 13, 2025, with the final scheduled for November 16, 2025.
The competition will feature the four best second-placed teams from the nine qualifying groups. CAF also announced that the October 2025 FIFA World Rankings will be used to determine the seeding for the draw.
Based on the seeding, the top-ranked team will face the fourth-ranked, while the second-ranked side will take on the third-ranked in the semi-finals.
The eventual winner of the mini-tournament will advance to the intercontinental play-offs in March 2026, where they will meet teams from Asia, South America, Oceania, or CONCACAF to fight for a coveted spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
