Algeria have officially booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a convincing 3–0 victory over Somalia on Thursday night.
The Desert Foxes’ triumph in the African qualifiers Group G sealed their return to the world’s biggest football stage for the first time since 2014.
Forward Mohamed Amoura was the hero of the night, netting a brace to lead Algeria’s charge, while captain Riyad Mahrez added a third to put the result beyond doubt.
The win took Algeria to an unassailable 22 points, ensuring their qualification with games to spare. It marked a dominant campaign in which the North Africans displayed consistency, balance, and attacking flair throughout the qualifiers.
For head coach Vahid Halilhodžić, who guided Algeria to their last World Cup appearance in Brazil 2014, this qualification symbolizes a full-circle moment for the team and its fans.
Algeria now join Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia as the African nations that have already sealed their tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The qualification also brings a wave of joy to Algerian supporters, who have waited over a decade to see their team back on the global stage after their memorable 2014 campaign, where they reached the Round of 16 before narrowly losing to Germany.
With a blend of youthful energy and experienced leadership, the Desert Foxes will aim to make a strong statement when the tournament kicks off next year.
