Australian giants Melbourne City have confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Chinaza Uchendu ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 27-year-old forward, who has been capped 10 times by the Super Falcons, arrives with vast international experience, having played club football across Portugal, Sweden, South Korea, Nigeria, Turkey, and most recently France with FC Nantes.
Uchendu’s impressive career includes appearances at the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, underlining her pedigree at the highest level of women’s football.
During her time in Turkey, she enjoyed success with Galatasaray, lifting the Turkish Women’s Super League title, before moving to France, where she featured prominently for Nantes.
Now, Uchendu is set to strengthen Melbourne City’s attacking options as the club prepares for challenges both in the Ninja A-League and on the continental stage in the AFC Women’s Champions League.
Speaking after completing the move, Uchendu expressed her excitement and ambition:
“It’s an honour to join a club with such a strong reputation and commitment to excellence. I’m excited to embrace this new challenge and help bring more silverware to Melbourne City. I’ve heard wonderful things about the club’s culture and professionalism, and everyone has been incredibly welcoming so far. I can’t wait to wear the City jersey and start contributing on the pitch.”
With her versatility, experience, and winning mentality, Melbourne City will hope Uchendu can provide the cutting edge needed to achieve their domestic and continental ambitions this season.
