Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel produced a sensational display in the semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships, storming into the final with a time of 47.47 seconds on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old’s performance not only secured his spot in Friday’s final but also etched his name in the history books as only the second Nigerian ever to reach the final of this event at the World Championships.
The trail was first blazed by Henry Amike in the 1987 edition of the championships in Rome, Italy. Nearly four decades later, Nathaniel has revived that legacy with a powerful run that underlines his growing stature on the global stage.
Nathaniel’s qualification adds to what has already been a memorable campaign for Team Nigeria, following Tobi Amusan’s silver medal earlier in the week.
All eyes will now be on him as he aims to convert his historic qualification into a medal-winning performance, potentially becoming only the second Nigerian to mount the podium in the men’s 400m hurdles at this level.
The highly anticipated final takes place on Friday, where Nathaniel will line up against the world’s best in pursuit of glory.
