‎Brighton & Hove Albion Women suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Friday night, despite taking an early lead and another standout performance from Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

‎Making just her second appearance since joining from Paris FC, Nnadozie once again showcased her class with several brilliant saves that kept Brighton in the contest.

‎The Seagulls stunned the visitors by opening the scoring in the first half, capitalising on a defensive lapse from City to send the home fans into celebration. Manchester City, however, responded with their trademark intensity. Khadija “Bunny” Shaw drew them level before the interval, finishing clinically after sustained pressure.

‎The second half saw City tighten their grip on the game. Japanese international Yui Hasegawa found the breakthrough with a precise strike to put the visitors ahead. Brighton battled hard and threatened on the counter, but despite Nnadozie’s heroics in goal — including a sharp stop to deny Shaw a brace and a fingertip save from Lauren Hemp — they could not find a way back.

‎Although the result was disappointing, Brighton can take encouragement from their resilience and Nnadozie’s commanding presence in goal. The Super Falcons star is already proving a valuable asset, earning plaudits for her reflexes, composure, and leadership at the back.

‎For Manchester City, the victory keeps them firmly in the title hunt, while Brighton will look to build on the positives from their performance against one of the league’s strongest sides.
