NPFL Issues Stern Warning To Clubs Over Unauthorised Youth Competitions

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has cautioned its member clubs against participating in youth tournaments not officially sanctioned by the league body.
The warning follows reports that several NPFL clubs have been actively involved in the ongoing N-Youth League, a competition aimed at discovering grassroots football talent.
In a statement, the NPFL clarified that the N-Youth League has no formal affiliation with the league board and, therefore, lacks the legitimacy to engage top-flight clubs.
The league organisers stressed that the NPFL, in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), remains the sole authority empowered to organise and supervise youth football competitions in the country.
Furthermore, the NPFL expressed concern that premier league clubs were competing in the same tournaments with lower-division and amateur sides, a move the board described as “inconsistent with professional standards.”
The league body concluded by warning that any club found flouting this directive by taking part in unapproved youth tournaments would face disciplinary sanctions.
