It was a weekend to remember for goalkeepers Sabitu Abiola of Remo Stars and Otuyiga Hakeem of El-Kanemi Warriors, as both men delivered commanding performances to secure clean sheets for their clubs in NPFL Matchday 3 fixtures.
Sabitu Steadies Remo Stars’ Goal
Young shot-stopper Sabitu Abiola was once again trusted between the sticks by Remo Stars’ head coach Daniel Ogunmodede, following his impressive debut in the 2-1 away win over Kun Khalifat FC.
In Ikenne, Sabitu repaid that faith with another solid outing. His calm presence and sharp reflexes ensured Remo Stars protected their slim advantage after ex-Sunshine Stars forward Samson Olasupo netted the decisive second-half goal.
The goalkeeper’s composure under pressure earned plaudits from fans and reinforced his growing reputation as one for the future.
Otuyiga Continues His Fine Run for El-Kanemi
At the other end of the league, Otuyiga Hakeem extended his fine form with a third consecutive clean sheet, helping El-Kanemi Warriors hold Rivers United to a goalless draw in Maiduguri.
The former Akwa United goalkeeper has been in imperious form this season. Only a week earlier, he was the star of the show in Lagos, producing a string of vital saves to deny Ikorodu City. Against Rivers United, his excellent command of the box and coordination of his backline once again proved decisive, frustrating the visitors’ attacking threat.

As the NPFL season begins to gather momentum, the performances of Sabitu and Otuyiga highlight the importance of reliable goalkeeping.
