‎FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended warm congratulations to Morocco after the Atlas Lions sealed their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a resounding victory on Friday evening.

‎The North Africans produced a dominant display at the newly inaugurated Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, thrashing Niger 5-0 to book their ticket to the global showpiece. Goals from Ismael Saibari (brace), Ayoub El Kaabi, Hamza Igamane, and Azzedine Ounahi secured Morocco’s seventh World Cup appearance—and their third in succession.

‎Infantino, in a post shared on his Instagram account, hailed the historic achievement and underlined Morocco’s growing stature in world football:

‎ “What an exceptional performance! Congratulations to Morocco, which has qualified for the World Cup for the seventh time in its history. This is a particularly important moment for Moroccan football, as we approach the centenary of the 2030 World Cup, which this magnificent country will host.”

‎He further encouraged fans and players alike to celebrate the milestone while keeping an eye on bigger ambitions:

‎“But for now, it’s about celebrating this qualification for the fabulous 2026 World Cup. We look forward to seeing more feats, like those you achieved in Qatar to reach the semi-finals.”

‎The Atlas Lions made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals. With the next tournament set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Morocco will once again carry Africa’s hopes of making a deep run on the world stage.
