Team Ondo Departs Akure For national Youth Games In Asaba

‎Team Ondo on Wednesday departed Akure, the state capital, en route to Asaba, Delta State, to compete in the 9th National Youth Games (NYG).

‎The event will feature contingents from all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

‎Ondo State will participate in 22 events, including wrestling, karate, squash, darts, athletics, judo, tennis, table tennis, swimming, handball, beach volleyball (girls), abula (male), kickboxing, boxing, para table tennis, ayo olopon, gymnastics, and others.

‎At the 8th edition of the NYG, Team Ondo finished 12th on the medals table, securing a total of 16 medals.

‎Addressing the athletes before their departure, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Henry Omoyofunmi, urged them to be good ambassadors of the state by competing in line with the rules and spirit of the Games.

‎Represented by the General Manager of the State Sports Council, Mr. Sunday Fagite, the Commissioner encouraged the athletes to give their best and aim for podium finishes.

‎“Our sports-loving Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is looking forward to receiving you upon your return,” he said. “Win medals for the state and make us proud.”

‎The 9th National Youth Games will run from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
