The Chairman of the Osun State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Engr. Abiola Awoyeye, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing remodelling and facelift of the Osogbo Township Stadium, describing it as a flagship sports project under the administration of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.

Hon. Awoyeye, accompanied by other members of the committee, visited the project site alongside officials from the Osun State Ministry of Works and top management of the Osun State Sports Council, led by the General Manager, Mr. Ademola Daini. The inspection was hosted by the contractors, Messrs Maxwell Int’l Ventures Limited, with the Project Manager, Architect Jay Jay Oyekale, leading the delegation through the various sections of the facility.

Speaking during the inspection, Architect Oyekale noted that work on the main bowl pitch had reached a satisfactory stage. “We are currently at the drainage installation phase and have taken time to study the flow of water during rainfall. The results have been impressive, and we are satisfied with the progress,” he said.

According to him, the next steps will include installing the turf, upgrading the running tracks, and expanding the stadium’s capacity from 5,000 to 15,000 seats. Other improvements will include a VIP stand, a media room for journalists, and enhanced sports infrastructure.

Oyekale assured that the project would be completed within schedule, adding that the upgraded stadium would support year-round sports and entertainment activities, boosting economic opportunities for the state.

Highlighting the scope of the remodelling, the facility will feature:

Two artificial turf fields

One natural grass pitch

An artificial hockey pitch

A multipurpose indoor sports hall

Two tartan tracks

A squash court

A swimming pool

Hostels and a hotel

Covered seating for the main bowl

A shopping complex to stimulate local commerce

Hon. Awoyeye emphasized the importance of on-site inspections, noting that paper plans alone cannot capture the realities of a major project. “Osun United will be starting the Nigeria National League soon, and we are confident the stadium will be ready to host them. The governor is committed to funding this project, and as policymakers, we are working to ensure there is no delay,” he stated.

The Osogbo Township Stadium remodelling, when completed, is expected to attract national and international sporting events, positioning Osun State as a prominent hub for sports development in Nigeria.
