D’Tigress Honoured With OON Award And $100,000 Each For Afrobasket Triumph

The Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has been conferred with national honors and rewarded with substantial prizes for their historic 7th Women’s Afrobasket championship title.
President Bola Tinubu honored the team members with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award, recognizing their outstanding achievement.
The President’s rewards include:
- $100,000 cash reward for each player
- $50,000 cash reward for members of the technical crew
- A plot of land for each player and official
- A flat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for each team member
D’Tigress made history by winning their fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title, defeating Mali 78-64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
This achievement has also earned them an automatic ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the reception, where he congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement.
The team’s historic triumph was celebrated with great fanfare, and the national honors and rewards serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication.
