Governor Otti Pledges To Upgrade Umuahia Township Stadium and Develop Abia Stadium City

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti emphasises his commitment to sports development during a meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) delegation, led by President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.
Governor Otti announced plans to upgrade the Umuahia Township Stadium for the Abia Warriors Football Club and other teams as a short-term solution. He stated, “We’ll upgrade it to a standard township stadium while planning a long-term solution with the Abia Stadium City, which will feature an entertainment village, plazas, a conference centre, and residential apartments.”
He highlighted the stadium as a unifying factor in sports and reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting the NFF. Otti also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Super Falcons’ recent successes and pledged to elevate Abia’s status in sports further.
NFF President Gusau praised Abia as the home of Nigerian football and sought support for the Umuahia Township Stadium’s renovation, promising technical assistance.
The meeting included key stakeholders, including Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, and Mr. John Obuh, Chairman of Abia Warriors.
