The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco after a thrilling 2-1 win over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring with a penalty in the 45th minute, but Linda Mothalo equalized for South Africa from the spot shortly after the break.
The Super Falcons dominated the second half, with South Africa pushing hard for a winner but unable to find the breakthrough.
As the match seemed destined for extra time, defender Michele Alozie struck a late winner, sending the Super Falcons into the final.
The victory means the Super Falcons will face the winners of the Morocco vs Ghana match in the final.
Notably, Mothalo’s goal is the only one Nigeria has conceded so far in the tournament, a testament to the team’s defensive solidity.
The Super Falcons’ mission to lift the trophy remains intact, and they will be looking to make their fans proud in the final.
