The Super Falcons of Nigeria have confirmed their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after finishing top of Group B with seven points.
They will face Zambia’s Copper Queens in a highly anticipated match on Thursday, July 17, in Casablanca.
This matchup is a rematch of the 2022 bronze medal playoff, where Zambia defeated Nigeria 1-0.
The Super Falcons will be looking to avenge that loss and make a strong run in the tournament. Zambia, on the other hand, has been impressive in the group stage, scoring six goals in their three matches, with Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji accounting for all of them
Zambia finished second in Group A behind hosts Morocco, with two wins and one draw.
They drew 2-2 with Morocco in their opening match but bounced back with convincing wins over Senegal and DR Congo, 3-2 and 1-0 respectively. Their dynamic attack and strong team performance make them a formidable opponent for the Super Falcons.
The Super Falcons secured their quarterfinal spot after a 0-0 draw with Algeria in their final group match. Coach Justine Madugu rested several key players in that match, which might give him an opportunity to pick his strongest team for the quarterfinal clash with Zambia
