Chelsea FC has been crowned the champion of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, following a dominant 3-0 win over European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The Blues’ victory was inspired by Cole Palmer, who scored twice and set up a brilliant third goal for new signing Joao Pedro.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a low shot past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, assisted by Malo Gusto.
Palmer added a second goal just eight minutes later with a neat dummy and identical shot from the edge of the box.
Joao Pedro sealed the win with a lob over Donnarumma in the 42nd minute, following a defense-splitting pass from Palmer.
The match took a heated turn when PSG midfielder Joao Neves was sent off in the 85th minute for pulling defender Marc Cucurella’s hair.
Additionally, PSG manager Luis Enrique was involved in a controversy after appearing to slap Chelsea forward Joao Pedro in the post-match scenes. Enrique later explained that he was trying to separate fighting players to avoid further escalation.
The match saw a record attendance of 81,118, with US President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino among the spectators. Chelsea’s victory earned them approximately £90m, solidifying their position as world champions
