Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one place to 44th in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings.
The team’s mixed results in recent international fixtures, including World Cup qualifiers, have contributed to this decline.
Despite this setback, the Super Eagles remain firmly inside Africa’s top five.
The Super Eagles had previously climbed to 43rd in the April ranking update but failed to maintain momentum in the latest calculation period.
This drop is a result of the team’s inconsistent performance in recent matches.
The Super Eagles retain 5th place on the continental rankings, behind:
1. Morocco (12th globally) – maintaining their strong position
2. Senegal (18th globally) – holding steady in second place
3. Egypt (34th globally) – solidifying their third-place spot
4. Algeria (36th globally) – rounding out the top four
5. Nigeria (44th globally) – looking to bounce back
The top three teams in the global rankings remain unchanged:
1. Argentina (1st globally) – continuing to lead the pack
2. Spain (2nd globally) – holding strong in second place
3. France (3rd globally) – maintaining their third-place position
The Super Eagles remain ahead of key rivals:
- Ghana (76th globally) – a significant gap in rankings
- South Africa (56th globally) – still trailing behind Nigeria
The next opportunity for Nigeria to improve their ranking will come during the September international window, where they are expected to play the 2026 World Cup qualification rounds.
A strong performance in these matches could help the Super Eagles climb the rankings.
