Wikki Tourists’ Technical Adviser, Abdul Maikaba, has expressed excitement about his team’s qualification for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 4-0 win over Yobe Desert Stars in the NNL Super 8 play-offs. Maikaba attributed the team’s success to the tactical discipline of his players.
Maikaba said, “I’m happy that my players listened to my instruction and rediscovered their scoring form which enabled them to overrun our opponent. You’re aware that in our last two matches, we dominated the game but were not able to find the back of the net.
But after analyzing what went wrong, we decided on a more tactical approach which paid off handsomely.”
Meanwhile, Maikaba has apologized to the Nigeria National League (NNL) board for his previous comments about referees being biased against his team. After their match against Barau FC, Maikaba had made some unguided utterances against the match officials.
However, after leading his team to promotion to the NPFL, Maikaba said, “I’m really sorry for the utterances which I made out of emotion. Although, I have apologized to the panel, but I need to officially make a public apology over that.”
Maikaba added, “As an old coach, we have to show good example to the young and upcoming coaches so that the game will not be brought to disrepute. That’s why it’s important that I make this public apology.”
