Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has defended his decision to omit forward Monday Gift from the final squad for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), citing CAF regulations and a detailed analysis of player strengths and weaknesses.
Madugu acknowledged that leaving any player out is painful, but emphasized that the team’s analysis and CAF’s player limit regulations guided his decision.
The coach noted that other quality players were also omitted, highlighting the competitiveness and depth of the Super Falcons’ squad.
Monday Gift has been in excellent form for Washington Spirit in the NWSL, scoring four goals and providing one assist in nine league appearances.
