Team Ondo Delivers Impressive Performance At BESS Competition

Team Ondo delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 South West Basic Education School Sports (BESS) competition in Lagos, securing 19 medals to finish as first runners-up.

 

The team’s success was led by sprint sensation Omobobola Ojuotimi, who won gold medals in the 200m Girls and 4x100m Mixed Relay events.

 

The outstanding performances are

-Omobobola Ojuotimi won gold in the 200m Girls with a remarkable time of 27.8 seconds and silver in the 100m Girls and 4x100m Girls events.

 

Her exceptional display caught the attention of Dr. Martins Adewinle, who promised to support her career.

 

-Precious Sunday and Israel Olorunfemi claimed gold medals in the 400m Girls and Boys events, respectively.

 

– High Jumpers duo of Femi Adeniran (Boys) and Esther Aderemi (Girls) took top spots in their respective events.

 

-Ejike Emmanuel won gold in Scrabble (Boys).

 

Controversy Surrounding 4x100m Girls Relay

 

Team Ondo initially won the gold medal in the 4x100m Girls relay after crossing the finish line ahead of Ogun and Oyo following a collision between host Lagos and Osun at the third baton exchange.

 

However, Lagos athletics referees ordered a rerun, which Lagos won, demoting Ondo to second place

 

Topped the medal table with 9 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze medals, thanks to their wins in boys’ and girls’ football.

 

Finished second with 7 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze medals.

 

Ekiti State took third place with 5 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
