South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns have become the first African club to secure a win at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, defeating South Korean side Ulsan HD 1-0 at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Iqraam Rayners scored the decisive goal with a composed finish from a perfect pass by Lucas Ribeiro.
Sundowns took the initiative early on, with Rayners having two apparent goals disallowed for handball and offside.
Rayners’ decisive goal came after a well-worked pass from Ribeiro, showcasing the team’s attacking prowess.
Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made crucial saves to deny Ulsan HD’s scoring opportunities, particularly in the second half.
With this win, Sundowns top Group F, ahead of Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund, who played to a scoreless draw earlier in the day.
Sundowns will face a tough test against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in Cincinnati, Ohio while Ulsan HD will take on Fluminense in New Jersey.
