The English Football League (EFL) has announced a format change for the Carabao Cup, introducing a preliminary round for the 2025/26 season.
Four teams will compete in the qualifying round, reducing the number of clubs in the first proper round.
All Premier League clubs participating in European competitions will enter the competition in the third round.
National League promotion winners Barnet will face Newport County, the lowest finisher in League Two.
Oldham will take on Accrington Stanley, the second-lowest finisher in League Two.
The draw for the first round will take place on Thursday, June 26, as part of the EFL’s Fixture Release Day.
The preliminary round draw will also occur on June 26 to determine the home clubs for the two ties.
