NPFL: Rivers United Cut Remo Stars’ Lead To 5 Points

Boluwaji David Sholumade’s late second-half header was enough to win a hotly-contested top-of-the-table clash against Remo Stars.
The hardworking utility player, who started his eleventh consecutive NPFL game for the Pride of Rivers since joining in the January transfer window, flicked in a perfect cross from Taiwo AbdulRafiu to give us a deserved lead on 84 minutes.
There were two clear-cut goal-line clearances for either side before that. ThankGod Ikeagwu headed off a shot from Ubong Friday after a beautiful team move involving Abba Suleiman and Taofeek Otaniyi in the 44th minute. It was the turn of Emmanuel Ampiah to prevent the visitors from taking the lead, as he reacted quickly to produce a goal-line clearance in the 51st minute.
However, the one goal was enough to consolidate our second position in the table, while also marking our seventh Nigeria Premier Football League win against Remo Stars in eleven top-flight meetings (W7, D3, L1).
What this means:
We stay in second place on the log with 55 points from 32 matches, 5 points behind leaders Remo Stars who still have a game in hand.

We travel to Umuahia to face Abia Warriors on Sunday, April 13.
