Ondo Boys’ High School Beat Imade College As 86th AIONIAN Festival Concludes In Ondo

Goals from Alabi Yusuf and Oladayo Ayomide Gave Ondo Boys’ High School 2-1 victory over Imade College Owo to clinch football Gold medal at 86th AIONIAN Festival tagged “Ondo 2025”, Sportsgister.com reports
Alabi Yusuf fired the host ahead inside the first ten minutes of the game while Imade college restored parity after the host committed defensive blunder.
Oladayo Ayomide curled a well taken free-kick in the second half to seal the victory for Ondo Boys’ High School
President-General of Ondo Boys’ High School (OBHS) Alumni, Pastor Engr. Khalil Akinboboye while speaking at event highlighted the unifying role of the AIONIAN festival in fostering growth among participating schools.
“My message to us is to constantly focus on our strengths and opportunities. This should be seen in our delivery as we use the AIONIAN festival to foster unity and consistent enhancement in the education and sporting activities of AIONIAN group of schools.
“Like the OBHS anthem emphasised on ‘beauty all around when there is love at home,’ we should use this caption at all times and continue to manifest excellence and productivity in all our endeavours.”
Also Speaking at the epoch-making event,vice-Chairman of the OBHS AIONIAN 2025 Planning Team, Barrister Remigius Akinbinu, reminisced on his participation in the AIONIAN games, recalling his journey from Ondo Boys’ High School to Oduduwa College.
“I later attended Oduduwa College and played for them in the AIONIAN, also captaining the team in 1985. To the glory of God, this is about 43 years after I have left Ondo Boys’ High School, I am highly excited that this same AIONIAN games that I played in and travelled for is still running.
“We are still doing it, still featuring the same schools, same competitions. I feel like a young man again, I feel like I am there again doing AIONIAN games and the sense of belonging is high. We should not forget that our secondary school days contributed greatly to our valued lives and accomplishments.”
Akinbinu urged students to take sports seriously alongside their education, noting that sports remain a tool for unity and a great source of wealth.
Ondo Boys’ High School emerged winner of match past while Ilesa Grammar School and Abeokuta Grammar School finished second and third, respectively.
Ondo Boys’ High School also won 100m boys Gold,while Remo Secondary School came second and Victory College Ikare in third.
The Ondo Boys’ High School won 4×100m boys relay, closely followed by Imade College, Owo, and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School finished third
The event also witnessed pulling out of former AIONIAN chief Mr Dare Sorinola
The 85th edition saw dignitaries from all walks of life gracing the festival, including the Ondo State Governor, who was represented by the Ondo West local government chairman , Honourable Ayotunde Akinfolarin , a proud alumnus of Ondo Boys High School
The Lisa of Ondo kingdom High Chief Simeon Oguntimehin who is also an alumnus of the school graced the occasion
The participated schools are Abeokuta Grammar School (Abeokuta House), Ijebu-Ode Grammar School (Ijebu-Ode House), Ibadan Grammar School (Ibadan House), Ondo Boys’ High School (Ondo House), Oduduwa College (Oduduwa House), Ilesa Grammar School (Ilesa House), and Remo Secondary School (Remo House).
Others are Imade College (Owo House), Victory College Ikare (Ikare House), Yewa Egbado College (Yewa House), Manuwa Memorial Grammar School (Manuwa House), and Gbongan/Ode-Omu Anglican High School (Gbongan House).
In March 1930, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s father, the late Rev. Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti, who was then the principal of Ijebu-OdeGrammar School, along with the late Rev. W R.B Kuye, the principal of Abeokuta Grammar School, late Rev. A.B Akindele of Ibadan Grammar School, and late Rev. M C Adeyemi of Ondo Boys High School came together at a meeting at St Andrew’s College Oyo to form the AIONIAN GROUP OF SCHOOLS.
The AIONIAN BROTHERHOOD has since grown from 4 schools to 12 schools spread all over South West Nigeria. Schools in the brotherhood share an annual sports and academic festival held on rotation among all the schools.
Gbongan/Ode-Omu Anglican High School will host the 87th edition in 2026
