Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella has been shortlisted for Bayer Leverkusen’s Goal of the Month award for January, recognizing his standout strike in the Bundesliga.
Tella, who has gradually earned more playing time this season, has featured in 16 league games, contributing one goal and one assist. His only Bundesliga goal came on October 10 in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old capitalized on a defensive error, unleashing a powerful half-volley from the edge of the box that left goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with no chance.
Bayer Leverkusen has nominated Tella’s effort alongside four other strikes: Alejandro Grimaldo’s free-kick against FSV Mainz, Florian Wirtz’s goal against Borussia Monchengladbach, and Patrik Schick’s finish against RB Leipzig.
While Tella’s goal ranks among the top contenders for its precision and technique, Grimaldo’s spectacular free-kick remains a strong favorite to win. The remaining nominees, though solid, lack the same level of flair.
The winner will be determined through fan votes, turning the contest into a popularity battle. Regardless of the outcome, Tella’s nomination highlights his growing impact at Leverkusen as he continues to establish himself in the Bundesliga.
