Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emphasized Victor Boniface’s importance to the team following the Nigerian forward’s standout display in a 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim, where he found the back of the net.
Boniface, who was close to securing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr last weekend, remained with Leverkusen after the transfer fell through.
“I have always trusted him; this was an important moment for him, especially after his injury,” Alonso said during the post-match interview.
The manager also addressed the recent transfer saga, describing it as “unusual and difficult” for the player. However, Alonso highlighted the role of fan support in boosting Boniface’s morale.
“It was important for him to feel valued and receive support from the fans. That means a lot for his confidence,” Alonso added.
