Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface marked his return from a three-month injury layoff in style, scoring Bayer Leverkusen’s opener in their 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim at the BayArena on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward, back in the starting lineup, needed just 15 minutes to make an impact. Boniface latched onto a precise pass from Alejandro Grimaldo and fired a one-time shot past Luca Philipp to give Leverkusen an early lead. Four minutes later, Jeremie Frimpong doubled the advantage, finishing off a well-orchestrated team move as Leverkusen dominated the first half.

Boniface was replaced at halftime by Patrik Schick, who wasted no time adding to the scoreline. The Czech forward capitalized on a rebound in the 51st minute, poking home to make it 3-0. Leverkusen’s control of the game wavered briefly after Grimaldo received a second yellow card in the 61st minute.

Hoffenheim’s Nigerian striker Gift Orban entered the fray moments later and immediately made his mark, scoring with his first touch to reduce the deficit to 3-1. Despite the numerical advantage, Hoffenheim failed to build on the momentum as Leverkusen held on for the win.

Boniface will be pleased with his impactful return, while Orban continues to impress with two goals in as many games for Hoffenheim.
