Rivers Angels delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday evening, dismantling FC Robo 4-2 in their latest Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) on Wednesday, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, port Harcourt.
Coming into the match, Rivers Angels had gathered four points from their first two games, securing a 2-1 victory over Ibom Angels and a 1-1 draw with Naija Ratels FC, last Wednesday in Abuja.
The hosts wasted no time asserting themselves, with captain Polinus Ifeoma curling in a sensational free kick in the ninth minute to ignite the home crowd.
However, Robo Queens responded swiftly, as Kemi Adegbuyi scored, just four minutes later to level the scoreline 1-1.
After a closely contested first half, Rivers Angels turned up the heat in the second period.
Barely five minutes in, Aminat Folorunsho latched onto a pinpoint cross from Peace Effiong, volleying home to restored the lead 2-1.
Three minutes later, Ifeoma Ikenokwalu’s powerful free kick deflected off Fasilat Adeyemo, to made it 3-1 for the Rivers Ladies.
The victory was sealed in the 65th minute, when Effiong calmly converted a penalty after Bukola Adegbite fouled Ikenokwalu inside the 18 yard box.
With the result, Rivers Angels move one point clear of the Lagos Landladies at the summit of NWFL Group B, further strengthening their Super six ambition.
