Bayelsa Queens football club got back on track in the NWFL Premiership with a 5-1 victory over their host Benue Queens on Wednesday 29 January, 2025, to ensure they are back in contention to qualify for the Super Six.

Amblessed Ogbonnaya struck twice in each half with Chinwa Akabike, Vera Samuel and Rita Uduakabong also on target in a ruthless display at the Lafia City Stadium.

Whyte Ogbonda’s side has won one and drawn one match before Wednesday’s game in a worrying start to the NWFL Premiership season with only one goal scored in two matches.

Chinwe Akabike opened the flood gate of goals for the Prosperity Girls as she netted in the 17th minute, Amblessed Ogbonnaya made it two in the 20 minutes while Vera Samuel scored in the 33rd minute to end the first half three-nil.

Amblessed Ogbonnaya struck again soon after the break to make it four to help Bayelsa Queens take control, Benue Queens scored a consolation goal through a penalty while Rita Uduakabong netted in the 87 minutes to put the game beyond the reach of Benue Queens.

Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Whyte Ogbonda in his post match interview said, generally his team performed below expectation.

“I am happy we won the match, but the players did not perform optimally as expected. Today, we created lots of chances but we did not utilize so many of the chances”, Coach Whyte said.

“There are lots of areas we need to fix like the midfield and the central defense. One thing I am promising Bayelsans is that we are not going to drop any points as we have resolved to improve in all areas,” Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.

Next for Bayelsa Queens is a home game against Adamawa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Ovom, Yenagoa, on Wednesday 5th February, 2025.
