Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has backed Eric Chelle to guide Nigeria’s national team to a title at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Super Eagles, who are gunning for a fourth AFCON title, have been drawn in a dicey group with Tunisia ýs Carthage Eagles, Cranes of Uganda and Taifa Stars of Tanzania.

Chelle, who is an experienced rear guard and former Mali interna-tional had led Mali to reach the quarter finals of the last AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. His record is such, it has established benchmarks for fans of the sport and the critics too. Chelle, according to Ikpeba, has an understanding of the Africa game and also, the ability to stimulate the Super Eagles’ talented squad.

He is a young coach and understands African football,” said Ikpeba. “I believe he will optimize the capacity of the Super Eagles. He will do a good job.

The Super Eagles face off against Tanzania first; a tie that could possibly give a glimpse of how serious the team is about the competition. Chelle, whose tactical knowledge will be critical in plotting the team’s path through the group stage and beyond, is expected to be helped by the likes of Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi when leading the team’s charge.

With the 2025 AFCON in the offing, where the Super Eagles are looking to reestablish their continental dominance, there is plenty of hope that under Chelle, dey go hammer for Morocco.
