Heartland Queens centre back, Oluomachi Sharon Onwere has said victory songs will be heard in all the corners of the state and beyond at the end of 90 minutes in the oriental derby against nextdoor neighbours, Abia Angels.
The Owerri landladies will play host to topflights, Abia Angels in Wednesday’s 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership matchday 3 clash at the sanctuary, Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Onwere said even though the Owerri mainstreams have been poor in the first two matches of the ongoing season that come on Wednesday against neighbours, Abia Angels the massive turnaround will be achieved and the tide will swing in their favour going forward in other matches on the league’s calendar.
“Of course, it’s going to be a tough game, there’s no two ways about it, it’s a derby but nothing short of three points will be good enough for us in the match.
“We may not have been clinical and fantastic in the last two matches, the last one against Edo Queens we really fought hard to deserve a win but it went the way it did, that’s football.
“I’m confident that if we could reproduce the same energy in that game against our neighbours, Abia Angels we will surely grab the three points at stake. The mood and spirit among the players are high, they are roaring to go to grab the season’s first points and by his grace we will achieve the mark.
“Last season we achieved 100% performance over them, that’s still our target this time around, notwithstanding the fact that some of our players are with them at present but we are still the same Heartland Queens, we have that culture in our veins and it will come to pass in this season,” said the lanky and hard-as-nail defender.
The Owerri mainstreams’ strong woman is optimistic that her side will make it to the Super Six and contest for the podium.
“Yes, we have lost six points so far but the league is still a marathon, all hopes are not yet lost and no one at the moment is a sure winner.
“Yes, we can and we would make the Super Six spot, and go on to do better than we did the last time. We will focus on winning our home matches and go out to grab some points and that will be good enough to see us through to Super Six,” said the Nigerian junior player.
Heartland Queens are without a point in the two-week old topflight after they suffered mishaps at two-season campaigners, Ekiti Queens in Ado Ekiti and champions, Edo Queens in Owerri.
