Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has revealed that the team were lucky to have secure a 2-1 win over Akwa United, in their Matchday 20 encounter, on Sunday.
The encounter which took place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, saw the league leaders came back from a goal down to secure a late victory, and picked their third away victories of the season.
Speaking shortly after the game, Ogunmodede expressed that it was a difficult game against a good side like Akwa United.
” Yes, I’m happy that we got the maximum points,” Ogunmodede said.
“But not the less we knew that we were coming to play a difficult side, with a new coach, a new mentality and also they are struggling with relegation, with a new set of players, and actually want to make a point, because Akwa United is one of the top clubs in the league but unfortunately, this is football and you go through difficult moments, but we capitalized on the chances they gave to us in the game.”
” However, when they took their chances in the first half, they were very aggressive which resulted in the goal they scored, but they also got couple of good scoring opportunities to even score two or three goals up, but they failed. So I believe that we were lucky to have secure the victory at the end.” he concluded
Ogunmodede known as Ijaball, revealed that it is vital three points for the side, as they keep their title aspirations hopes alive.
” Yes, it is a big three points for us, because one of our contenders (Rangers Int’l) lost yesterday at home, but we knew that we had to find a way to win, so it is a massive three points for us, and we hope to continue improving to maintain sit top in the league table.”
With the victory, Remo Stars sits top in the league table on 39 points, with five points clear of second placed, Rivers United (34 points) after 20 games.
