Rivers Angels head coach Tosan Blankson has praised his team’s determination after securing a 2-1 victory over Ibom Angels in their Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) opener.
Blankson believes the three points put his side in a strong position for Super Six qualification, emphasizing the importance of winning the first match of the season.
“In every first match, you have to give your best and do everything possible to get the three points. The girls did that today,” Blankson said.
Addressing a key tactical decision, Blankson explained why he kept a particular player on the pitch despite her struggles in possession.
“With the ball, she’s not too good, but without the ball, she’s excellent. We used her strength to complement the team,” he stated.
The coach admitted his side struggled to impose their style, adjusting instead to Ibom Angels’ physical, direct approach.
“Our players aren’t used to kicking the ball anyhow. They were more physical, which gave them an advantage. But we’ll work on transitioning better in the next match.”
Blankson assured fans that Rivers Angels will improve as the season progresses, taking each game step by step.
