Ibom Angels head coach Edwin Okon has expressed his frustration with the officiating following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Rivers Angels in their Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) opener.

Okon, known for his candid opinions, did not hold back in criticizing the referee’s performance, claiming it unfairly favored the home side.

“You don’t just prepare a team for months, and then one man comes and spoils your work. If this is how the league will be run, it won’t go well. It’s like every home team must win,” Okon said.

Despite the loss, Okon praised his players for their effort but admitted that frustration led to costly mistakes in the second half.

“Our girls had a fair game, but when you’re frustrated, mistakes happen. I won’t blame them too much, but if officiating continues like this, how do we grow?” he questioned.

The coach also raised concerns over the treatment of media coverage, claiming officials tried to prevent cameramen from recording the match.

Okon, however, remains focused on improving his team, stating, “We’ll go back and fix our mistakes. If we don’t play well, we should lose fairly.”
